The Mk3 was a little disappointing because the previous Mk2 was far superior in road handling, comfort, interior leg room for rear passangers etc:- etc:-

Under hard braking conditions it was very easy to "lock" those all important front wheels and there was no confidence that the car would stop, ending instead with a little slide in all but the gentlest of conditions.

So what has the car got? Why does it get a 3 star Adrian rating? Quite simply it's all based on the engine and its reliability. With 20 bhp more than my previous diesel, this car could go quite well and still return 60 mpg.

If you drive a Mk3 Golf, upgrade to a Mk4. If you don't drive a VW, save up your pennies and buy one!
